Early Life and Education

Hunter Austin is a Baton Rouge native who earned his undergraduate degree in Biology from Louisiana State University. He continued his education at LSU, obtaining his Juris Doctor and a degree in Comparative Law. While attending law school, Hunter was awarded the prestigious John P.

Prior to his legal career, Austin excelled in athletics. He is a three-time letterwinner in cross country and track & field at Logan (Utah) High School and tabbed first-team allstate in track & field on one occasion.

Austin also played football for the Grizzlies, earning Class 4A first-team all-state honors at wide receiver from the Deseret News and second-team all-state honors from the Salt Lake Tribune as a prep senior at Logan HS. He caught 50 passes for 909 yards (18.2 ypc/82.6 ypg) with 14 touchdowns. He also returned 11 kickoffs for 274 yards (24.9 ypr) and 12 punts for 193 yards (16.1 ypr). During his junior year, he helped Logan HS to a 10-1 record and the Region 5 Championship. He caught 42 passes for 776 yards (18.5 ypc/64.7 ypg) with nine touchdowns.

Austin's achievements in track and field include winning both the 100 meters (10.64) and 200 meters (21.66) at the Utah Class 4A outdoor track & field state championships as a junior.

  • Finished second in the 4x400-meter relay with a personal-best time of 3:17.66 at the Boise State-hosted Ed Jacoby Invitational.
  • Ran career-best time of 22.31 in the 200 meters at the Boise State-hosted Bronco Challenge, where he placed ninth in the prelims of the event.

In 2016, Austin played in nine games during the season. His only stats on the year came against Weber State (9/1) as he had one reception for zero yards.

During the 2021 season, Austin appeared in 11 games and carried the ball 13 times for 45 yards. His season-high total of 18 yards in Game 10 vs. Hawai’i included a season-long 14-yard burst. He also caught five passes for 33 yards out of the backfield.

In 2020, Austin appeared in three games after being slowed by injuries earlier in the season and had two rushing attempts for nine net yards.

In 2019, Austin finished second on the team with 369 net rushing yards for a robust per-carry average of 5.3. He also caught eight passes for 34 yards.
