Chad Henne and Patrick Mahomes Reunite for Subway Commercial

The bond among players in the NFL can transcend past being teammates and playing days. The Kansas City Chiefs have had the luxury of a stable tandem at quarterback with starter Patrick Mahomes and backup Chad Henne since 2018.

Henne announced his retirement from the NFL after Super Bowl LVII and played an essential role in the relief of Mahomes. After signing with Kansas City back in 2018, he's thrived in the veteran quarterback support role and clutch moments during the postseason.

While the two quarterbacks won't share the gridiron again on Sundays, Henne and Mahomes recently reunited for a project off the field. In a post to his Instagram account, Henne shared some photos of himself with Mahomes on the set of an upcoming Subway commercial which is notably endorsed by the two-time league MVP.

Here is that commercial with Mahomes and Henne.

Henne previously shared a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the commercial, which was shot at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.

That spot notes that Henne was a backup to Mahomes. As fans in Kansas City remember, Henne threw his only career postseason touchdown pass in January’s playoff win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

“Now that we are in different area codes,” said Henne via his Instagram, “we still find a way to be on the same team!”

Henne’s touchdown pass to Travis Kelce in the divisional round victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars was his lone postseason touchdown for his career. He provided a similar boost in the 2020 divisional round victory over the Cleveland Browns, keeping the Chiefs afloat following a Mahomes' injury.

The 37-year-old was a collegiate star at the University of Michigan and a former starter for the Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars since being drafted in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft.

The ad campaign centers around Subway finally introducing freshly sliced deli meats to their restaurants nationwide, with the tagline "PROferred by Pros. Preferred by America," so it's only fitting for Mahomes to enlist fellow NFL quarterback Justin Herbert to help with the promotions. The 25-year-old football star plays for the Los Angeles Chargers, breaking countless records in his first three years in the league, including the most passing yards for a quarterback in that timespan.

For the second "PROferred by Pros" commercial, Subway brought soccer star Julie Ertz to throw shade at Mahomes and American football. Soccer Female Player of the Year once in 2017 and again in 2019. She also played for the United States women's national soccer team for ten years, helping the squad win back-to-back FIFA World Cups in 2015 and 2019.

Subway played into two great rivalries, Patrick Mahomes vs. Justin Herbert and soccer vs. football, for their first two commercials with the reigning Super Bowl MVP.

For the third and final "PROferred by Pros" commercial, Subway enlisted former Chiefs quarterback Chad Henne to back up Mahomes in his promotion. During his career, the 14-year NFL veteran played for three different teams: the Miami Dolphins, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Kansas City Chiefs.

In the Subway commercial, Henne appears at the end, standing behind Mahomes and backing up his statements on the restaurant's newest sandwiches.
