Alhaji Alhasan Abdulai, Special Advisor of the Council of Chiefs of Ashongman Estates in Accra, has called for support for the newly installed chief of the Ashongman Estates in Accra for effective development of the area. The area, now experiencing rapid growth, requires improved water and sanitation, good roads, and additional commercial, health, and educational facilities.

The newly elected chief, Mr. Hassan Coulibaly, an Accra businessman, was selected by consensus by the Muslims in the area. Deputy chiefs were also chosen, including Mr. Murtala Galadima, in charge of administration, Mr. Yakubu in charge of finance, and Mr. Kassim So-Nice in charge of youth development. A Spiritual Leader, Youth Leader, Women's Leader, and an Imam were also inducted into office.
Recounting the history behind the installation of the chiefs, Alhaji Alhasan Abdulai said that after weeks of deliberations, the youth, women, and elders of the Ashongman Estates agreed to allow four nominees to select one of them as Chief of Muslims of the Ashongman Estates in the Dome Kwabenya Constituency in the Greater Accra Region. Four Muslims who were nominated by the youth in the area chose Mr. Hassan Coulibaly, a businessman, as the chief of the area. The Muslims also agreed to form a Council of Muslim Chiefs and Elders of Ashongman Estates in Dome Kwabenya Constituency in Accra.
Alhaji Alhasan Abdulai said since the government cannot embark on projects alone, the people in the area must embark on self-help projects to develop the area to provide opportunities for commercial and other activities to ensure openings for jobs for the youth.
Sheikh Captain Rashid Salawatia, who swore the chiefs into office, appealed to the chiefs to serve the people in the area with humility and involve them in whatever they plan for them. Mr. Carl Wilson, a prominent member of the National Democratic Congress, praised the newly installed chief for his knowledge and experience, which would guide him to be able to perform his duties effectively.
