All Nations University (ANU) is a private university located in Koforidua, the Capital of the Eastern Region of Ghana.

Space Science and Satellite Technology

The ANU-SSTL is a state-of-the-art technology and innovation laboratory that operates under the auspices of the Electronics and Communication Engineering department of the university. Its vision is to promote and build human capacity in the area of Space Science and Satellite Technology through innovative research and development of projects for the development of Ghana and Africa.

Key achievements of the ANU-SSTL include:

  • Currently the only university in the region to build, design and launch Ghana’s first satellite (GhanaSat-1) into space in 2017.
  • CANSAT (Miniature Satellite): In May 2013, the ANU-SSTL team members developed and launch its first miniature satellite which was first of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • AMATEUR GROUND STATION: In 2014, the ANU-SSTL team designed, developed and installed the first amateur ground station in Ghana and Sub-Saharan. The ground station made history by successfully tracking and receiving signal from the International Space Station (ISS) on 18th and 24th December 2014.
  • The Launch of Ghana’s First Satellite (GhanaSat-1): The ANU-SSTL three engineers completed the design and development of Ghana’s first satellite in 2017 and it was deployed to orbit on 7th July 2017.
  • In September 2015, Engineers from NASA with ANU students successfully installed SUN PHOTOMETER at the university premises as part of NASA Aerosol Robotic Network (AERONET) and its being operated by the ANU_SSTL staff.

The ANU-SSTL organizes its annual workshops and conferences by name “Space Science and Satellite Technology Application (SSSTA)” in fulfilling its mandate of promoting space science and satellite technology for sustainable development in Ghana and Africa. The conference yearly attracts both international and local professionals and experts from around the globe to share their experiences and expertise in the field.

The ANU-SSTL outreach targets the students (High Schools and Universities) and the society with the aim of building human capacity in the field of space science and satellite technology for the benefit of the society. We therefore organize several outreach acuities such as annual world space week celebration which brings high school students together to educate them on Science, Technology Engineering, Mathematics, Innovation (STEMI) and space science education.
